Living Room Lectures Living Room Lectures is part of the temporary Living Room installation created by Steven Beatty, Laurel Kurtz and Adam Brody in the display window at Elsewhere Artist Collaborative. Structured around a chalkboard with back-to-back, half-hour time slots, one signs up to deliver interest-based lectures in a casual space. Topics are chosen by presenters who have prior knowledge of their subject due to personal experience or research. The living room format provides an informal and relaxed atmosphere for audience and lecturer. Lecturers share the couch or sit on the floor with their audience or sit nearby in an armchair, and out-of-town presenters use Skype while they share their topic. The format encourages discussion during and after the presentation. Lecturers are miked to the street and their presentation is projected onto a screen on the window. Anyone can sign up to give a lecture. Activities, events, staff meetings, administrative stuff and general relaxing happens in the space when there is no lecture happening. Elsewhere Artist Collaborative is a living Museum and the Living Room is a living Installation. (Collaboration between Steven Beatty, Adam Brody and Laurel Kurtz and the Elsewherians) April 2009
